Firs at Marshfield.
A destructive blnze took place at
Marshfield about midnight last
Thursday night. A blaze was ob
served issuing from John Blutn-
quist’a residence, near the heart of
the residence part of town, and
soon enveloped four other tuild-
tngs, notwithstanding the earnest
work o f the fire laddies and many
citizens who gave helping hands.
Water was scarce, aud but for the
fact that there was no breeze at
that time aud a pretty hard shower
of rain served the place of the
artificial supply, the city appeared
to be doomed. I he losses were —
the dwellings of John Blumquist,
Mrs. Wrn. Heichnrt, John Shutter,
a houso belonging to A. O. Wheeler
of this place (occupied by Mr.
Mauiki) and a dwelling belonging
to Andrew O’Couner dnmngedl
tfadly. Other properties were also j
reported burned or damaged—one
belonging to oar townsman G. L.
Wheeler aud occupied by CHpt. C.
E. Edwards—but any injury re
ceived was so slight that they are
not counted.
The total loss would reach about
$8000, but Blumquist enried aa in
surance o f $2700 and O’CouDer,
$500. The others, we believe, lost
all —Mrs. Reichart about $1000,
John Shutter $1200, V. Iludna
$800, A. O. Wheelur, $900.
