P A C I F I C have already
It is not long since U. 8. Senator
Sanders, as attorney for stock and
bondholders of Northern Pacific
securities, exposed in the U.S. court
how the magnate, Villard, bad swin
dled them and wrecked the road in
his own interest to the extent of
many “ thousands in money.” Sen
ator Sanders went into the history
of Villard’s scheme, by which, he
said, “ the Northern Pacific was rob
bed of thousands in money, which
should have gone to those who built
the road, but which went into the
‘coffers of the Villards and other
polished and corrupt financiers.’
Of course this is not Populistic au
thority nor the opinion of cranks
and anarchists, who are hardly
allowed to have opinions, much less
express them, hence the admirers of
this ljind of money-getters and busi
ness transactions can muse upon
the case to their own edification.
But this is not all—this is not the
end of the smart practice against
the interests of those who should
be benefited by this great highway
of traffic, this common carrier. The
federal court appointed three fat and
sleek lawyers as receivers of the
wrecked and mismanaged affair—
not a master mechanic or skilled
railroad man. It was to he sup
posed threo lawyers, if they did not
know anything about railroading,
knew enough of law to obey the
orders of the court— but they didn’t;
or at least seemed to have an eye
single to disbursements of what
came in, and providing for it to
come in. The condition of the re
ceivership mismanagement is thus
stated in an Associated Press tele
gram—another anti-Populistio au
thority— and shows that anarchists
can oporate on more lines of destruc
tion than one, and rather go under
the name of “ polished and corrupt
financiers.” Here is the telegram of
court proceedings to oust the re
ceivers, and a statement of the mal
feasance and misfeasance of those
officials, which seems to have been
pretty steep, since the court demands
that they Bhall give bond in the sum
of $100,000 each:
Gen. Felix Angus, editor of the
Baltimore American, the leading
Democratic paper of Maryland, says
that state will go Republican in
November for the first time since
the war. He says that the Demo
crats are bolting their candidate for
governor by the thousand, to re
buke Senator Gorman.
Last August while working in the
harvest field I became overheated,
was suddenly attacked with cramps
and was nearly dead. Mr. Cum
mings, the druggist, gave me a dose
of Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera and
Diurrhiea Remedy which completely
relieved me. I now keep a bottle
of the remedy handy.—A. M. Bun

Legitimate advertising is merelv
business news.
The better a thing is the better
it pays to advertise it
The temple of success is reared
on newspaper columns.
Big words look better in the dic
tionary than they do in advertise
ments.
A clothing ad that talks about
everything else but clothing never
sells clothes.
What does it profit an advertiser
if he gain one sale and lose a
steady customer?
Advertising is insurance of bus
iness, but you must take care and
not let the policy lapse.
Borne advertisements, like some
pills, are sugar-coated, only to con
ceal the bad things they coyer.
Tho best place to put aD adver
tisement is in the paper that en
joys the confidence o f the commun
ity.

DON’T STOP TOBACCO
How to Cure Yourself While Using
Tobacco.
The tobacco habit grows on a ruan
until his nervous system is seriously
affected, impairing health, comfort
and happiness. To quit suddenly is
too severe a shock to the system, as
tobacco, to an inveterate user, be
comes a stimulant that his sj’stem
continually craves. Baco-Curo is a
scientific cure for the tobacco habit,
in all its forms,carefully compounded
after the formula of an eminent Ber
lin physician who has used it in his
private practice sinco 1872, without
a failure, purely vegetable aud guar
anteed perfectly harmless. You can
use all the tobacco you want, while
taking Baco-Curo; it will notify you
when to stop.
We give a written
guaranty to permanently cure any
case with three boxes, or refund the
money with 10 per cent interest.
Baco-Curo is not a substitute, but a
scientific cure, that cures without the
aid of will power and with no incon
venience.
It leaves the system as
pure and free from nicotine as the
day before you took your first chew
or smoke.
