Thompson had a queer guest last
Friday night, at Albany.

times, nnd got very wroth upon
haviug to pay for both sappers. He
is Dr. Henderson, from Salem, and
the object of his visit to the city
was to circulate a petition for the
pardon of Dr. Sponogle, sent to the
penitentiary from this county a
year or so ago on the charge of
rape.
He got no signers to his
petition.” Dr. Henderson has since
been placed in tbe asylum.

On the hottest day since the fired
of this month, July, the tempera
ture in tbe shade on Myrtle street,
Marshfield, was 98, whilst on the
upper Coos river it was as high as
104. The highest figure as yet at
Bandon wns only 78, and that was
only on one day, July 8th.

the lighthouse tower and enginw
room was brought down last San
day from the quarry, and the struc
ture is about ready for tbe brick,
work. The walls for the dwelling
house at tbe station are now above
the first floor.

off the wharf into the river here last
Wednesday.
Ralph Hunt drove
the tenrn onto the wharf and began
to load tho wagon with lumber. He
had only placed oue plank on the
wagon when the team became-
frightened aod backed the wagon
overthew harf intothe river. The
horses kept their heads above water
until they were loosened from tbe-
wagon and taken out. There was
not much damage except the loss-
of the king bolt and a cut or two
made iu the harness in getting the
horses loose from the wugou.
