var was one of Coos county’s pio­
neers, but lias left here on two or
three different occasions and lived
in different parts for a while, but,
in his own language,as “ Coos county
did a better part for him than any
other,” he returned each time, and
the last with the determination to
make it his permanent home. He
was liberal even to a fault, and no
man can say lie was wronged by
this just man ho would suffer a
wrong rather than to commit ono
in retaliation.
H e was a great
friend of this little paper, and of­
ten expressed a willingness to give
it any assistance should we need
that. That, and his noble and ster­
ling qualities as a man, have caus­
ed the writer*to look on him as ¡i
father. A wife and son are left
here to mourn his death, and they
have the sympathy of the whole
county.
