turn the water on the alfalfa fields,
and when the scarcity of green food
render it very valuable. There is
really no expense attached to rais-
i?*g the artichoke. The seeds are
planted and they grow’ with no at­
tention.
Hogs may root the
ground over time and time again,
the only eft’ect being to do what
the laborer would have to do— pul­
verize with a plow*.
After one
year's growth tho seed cannot be
eradicate« 1 from the soil by tin*
hogs, for wherever so much as a
spring forth.
Considering tin-
great advantage in producing these
valuable roots, it is a wonder that
the farmers do not all raise them.”
