party has been in power, and the price
of so exquisite a luxury is uot todimin-
ish. So long as there is a demand for
it, so long the cost will increase. When
the pas-ious tnd prejudices engendered
by tho war shall have fully passed away,
the people will approach an investiga­
tion of the condition into which their
government has been plunged he the
men they have intrusted with power,
with more calmness and consideration.
Reason will resume its throne, aud tho
action o f the masses will be no longer
controllable by passions both unnatural

will gain the victory. The power of
