o f a horrible outrage perpetrated near
T vncr’s station, by live negroes. Our
iuloriuant, Mr. Stantirfcr, is a gentle
ni.m well known to the citizens of Chat«
t.nio >g i, a farmer, residing in the neigh
borhood of the scene he rdlates. It ap
pears that the vicinity o f H u n t ’s camp
ground^ about one and a half miles
Irvin l'yner’a station in the eastern
part ot Hamilton comity, has lor some
week’s past beeii infested by a number
o f n. groe.*4 who have been a terror to
the citizens by their numberless thefts
and their outrages upon the women o f
the farmers’ households. On Saturday
evening la-t, a farmer named Gardner,
from North Alabama, arrived at the
('amp Ground, as the villiage is known,
intending to make a permanent settle
ment. The family consisted o f Hiram
Gardner, an old man o f about sixty-
years, and three daughters, all attained
to .womanhood.
They had traveled
from their old home in a wagon, con
taining their few personal and house
hold effects. Arriving at the outskirts
o f the village, they determined to stay
there until the following morning. A f-
ter their frugal meal they laid down iu
the wagou and went to sleep.
