P h r e n o l o g ic a l , E tc . — Dr. Jordan, o f San Francisco, for some time, wo believe, attached to the Anatomical Museum of that city, deliv ered a series o f lectures in Dallas this week. On Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the Court House on the subject of phrenology; on Friday evening before the Lyceum ut the Acad emy, on the science of Astronomy; Dr. Jordan handles his subjects with considerable ability, and elucidates the principles of these sciences in a stylo at once within tho comprehension of everybody. He is a very interesting speaker. Much instruction and not a little amusement were derived from these lectures by our citizens, and wo hope it will pay the Doctor to give us a few more on other sciences with which he ap pears to bo familiar ere he leaves us. ( P e r s o n a l . — During our recent sojourn in ’ ortland, wo were the recipient of many cour tesies at .he hands of W. B. Davidson, Esq., the late business agent of the Portland Herald, and tor many years connected with tho news paper business in that city. Mr. Davidson is now successfully conducting a flourishing b is- iness of his own as collector o f special claims and real estate agent, and for which few, very- few, are so well qualified— none that wc know o f in Oregon. We take pleasuie in recont mending him to our readers who may have bus iness in his line to transact in Portland, as we know from experience that he is prompt, accu rate, and thoroughly trustworthy iu all his transactions. See his card iu another column. P r o l i f i c . - -M r. I). D. l'retlyman called on us last Saturday, on his way home from a visit in the upper part of the county. Ou the way he stopped at Mr. L. L. Cooper's place, at the foot ol’ Mount I’ i-gah, to see the latter’s celebrated blackberry patch. Mr. P. informs us the patch is just one quarter of an acre in extent, Irom which Mr. Cooper has already sold in the m igh- horhood of 35 ' gallons of the luscious Lawton berries at filty cents per gallon. In addition to this the neighbors have picked a considerable quantity, and he has still sufficient left to put the balance of 400 gallons in the market this season. $200 per annum off a quarter acre is a tolerably good yield— beat it who cau. Two patients in the Insane Asylum at East Portland died last week— the result of prostra tion brought on by the protraction and severity of their insanity. The artesian well on the State Fair Grounds at Salem has been sunk to a depth of 30 feet. Hon. J. D. Fay is at Salem in attendance on some business before the Supremo Court. Mr. John Minto has purchased the Island opposite South Salem, for three thousand dol lars, with the intention of converting it into a dairy farm aud making thereon a pasture for town cattle.
