Mr. G allup stretch e d his legs o u t to

crack, b u t he never looked up from his
paper.

the face of Mr. G allup, hut It w as prob­
ably caused by th e article he w as read­
ing.
“ And about th e music, Sam uel? I
can ’t play on no harp w ithout lessons.
I have never even seen a harp. W hen
we w as first m arried. I used to play
ou th e accordion fu r you, but It w as
aw fu l poor plnylu, and you soon got
sick of It. Is it goln to 1« expected
th a t I kin fly lig h t up to heaven and
begin playln on a harp the very first
thing? I f It Is, then I dunno ns I
w a n t to die. I never could a-bcar bavin

ed, aud I slug through my nose, aud Is

Mr. G allup tu rn ed from the ham ­
mock article to oue on n atu ral gas In
Ohio, aud he extended his legs again
and prepared to digest It thoroughly.
I t m ight have occurred to him th a t
Mrs. G allup w as lu the room and th a t
she or some one else wus talking to
him, b u t he answ ered not. Ten m in­
utes lind gone by when he finished the
article aud looked up nnd around as if
he had suddenly m issed som ething.
Mrs. G allup lay curled up on the
lounge fa s t asleep, and in the cor­
ner of each eye still glistened a big
tear.

I changed my tactics. Instead of ask ­

and I resolved to keep It up. One night
w hen he cam e home for d in n er he a n ­
nounced th a t he hnd a severe headache

ing. I opposed th e Idea and pointed

cause him to forget Ills headache mid
do It good. H e gave m e a h ard look,
b u t acted on the suggestion and left
for his club. S om ething told me th a t
he would he back w ithin nn hour, so I
m ade nn elaborate toilet nnd w aited
fo r him to re tu rn . He cam e home, as I
expected, w ith th e plen th n t Ills head
wns w orse and th a t lie couldn't stand
th e noise a t the club. 1 condoled w ith
him and Ignored his question concern­
ing my elab o rate toilet. H e h asn ’t
been aw ay for an evening since. It Is
alm ost like the old honeymoon, only be
ap p ears to have som ething on his mind
th a t lie Is not entirely satisfied ab o u t.”
