An Interesting yet extrem ely ridicu

Six m onths ago E dw ard M. E lkus and
L illie M abney of San Francisco entered
into a c o n tra c t ‘"to be m arried for a
period of six m onths."' A few days ago
they again repaired to a n otary's oflieo

up for a n o th er six m ontns. The young
couple m ain tain th a t they have th e ad
vice of good law yers th a t the co n tract is
good. The situation is such a novel ono
th at several reputable law yers luivo per
suaded the young couple to perm it the
question to be subm itted to a co u rt of
adjudication. J u s t h o w to get this be
fore the c o u rt is the question. It can
hardly be accom plished by divorce pro
ceedings, neith er could it be accom plish

ever, declare th a t they will find a wav of
bringing the m a tte r to judicial notice
in order th a t tlie ridiculous proposition

Some of tlie lu st law yers in the sta te
have taken an interest in the m atter.
M any prom inent citizens declare th a t it
is ugainst public policy for such a qiu s-
tion to be dignified by a dou b t for any
length of tim e. On the other hand, there
are a few law yers who const n t to m ain
