S nake B itten .—We are informed by Mr.
S. B. Hull that on last Wednesday week,
near Fiounce Rovk, two of Mr. Uriah G««r
dou’a hule girle were bitten by a rattlesnake.
They were crossing an oat field, with theii
father, who was in advance, when the fore
most girl exclaimed, “Oh ! I’ve snagged mv
foot;” and the second girl stepping in the
same place, uttered the same exclamation.
Both were barefooted, and both were struck
on the same foot, just below the ankle bone.
Io a moment their tongues began to swell,
vomiting commenced, and the eldest had t-
be carried b-me. They wgre made to drink
freely of good whiskey, while poultices,
ma le of the rattlesnake weed, were applied
to the wounds. They suffered severely for
several days, hut are n<»w r«c«verihg.
P ipe L aying . — Messrs. Kearnes and Wil
son have laid a string of wa'erpipe, from the
fictoryof Linn A Hall, to their Livery s'a
bles; which they expect will supply them
with all the water needed. Mr. B. F. Dow
ell is laving pipe from the spring under the
Drug Store to bis residence. Th* pipe will
run under this office ; and the rumor reache-
us that we are to be undermined or blown
up. No credence is given to he rumor, how
ever, as we have it from Mr^ Dowell that if
undermined or blown up, he will set us up
nil right again. We presume this act ol
kindness on the part of Mr. Dowell, is in
duced by his love of “cheap advertising.”
A H igh F all .—A* a party of b<»ys were
going home from schonl. <»n Fridnv. July 1st.
they di-covered a crow’s nest high up in u
tree. One of the boys, about seven years
old. son of J. N. Woody, who resides near
Phoenix, nimbly ascended the tree and reach
ed the nest; when his hold broke ami he fel
a distance of f«*tv feet, breaking hie thigl
bone. H's mind was derange«! for Severn!
day« after the accident; but we are informed
by Dr. Davis, tbe attending surgeon. thur
the boy’« mind is right again, and that he is
doing well.
M useum of L iving W onders .—Mr. J. W.
Aduins, the gentlemanly agent of the Muse
uin of Living Wonders, called on us yester
day, and left bis advertisement, which y«*u
will please see in another column. These
wonderful persons are, Miss Anna Swan, the
N-»va Scotia Giant Girl, who is 20 years of
ige, 8 feet 1 inch high, weighs 413 pound*
and is beautifully formed; M«s« Z bedie, the
oeautiful Circassian Girl, from Kelzler, Cir
assia; Monsieur J Seph, the French Giant,
s 8 feet high, weighs 400 pounds and is well
pro|K>rtinned; and Major Green, who is 32
years old, 38 inches high and weighs 45
pounds. Our exchanges speak of them in the
most glowing terms, and we feel satisfied
they are curiosities worth seeing. Turn out,
and visit them at Horne’s Ilali next Monday
afernoon at 2 o’clock, and iu the eveuing at
7 o'clock.
