HUDSON A; MEN ET, are our duly author ized Agents in the Atlantic States. Offiec, 41 Park Row, “Times” Building, New York. 1OCAL INTELLIGENCE T Rev. C. Alderson will preach at the M. E. Church, to-morrow, at 11 o’clock, a. in., and at 7 o’clock, p. m. r R omantic and O therwise .—Our readers will remember old “Fifteenth Amendment,” alias Al. Johnson, who ran so well at the races, sonic weeks ago. Well, just as weexpected, “Fifteenth Amend xuent” has got himself into fre>h trouble. .He be. came smitten with another “cullud gemman’s” .laughter, down the vailey, a rather pretty cop per-colored maid of tender thirteen, visited her, contrary to her parents wishes, poured sweet non sense into her ears, and by his winning eloquence induced the unsophisticated maid to desert her father's roof and come to Jacksonville. Hither the exasperated parent followed ; and finding his lost •darliagat “Colored headquarters”, then and there administered to her a severe castigation, and sent her home. But true to her vows of love she fled again and met her swarthy lover, who bore her away from the busy scenes of city life into the mountains. And they sojourned a day and night in the chapnral. Her sorrouiug father came again, and falling to discover histriuuit child, and earing the w< rst, had an attachment issued for the|arrest of Johnson, who he supposed had his daughter in heeping. After diligent search the Sheriff fount! the happy tbtft erriag pair, on Wednesday evening, in the hills south of town. The girl was put in •ch.u ge other father who started her for home, and Fifteenth Amendment” was committed to the County Jail, where he is now awaiting an examin- ottiun on the cha rge of abductioe . D istrict S chools .—There seems to l>e a scarc ity, just now, of teachers ; and competent ones are in demand. Our School Superintendent, Mr. Shipley, has received several requests from Jose phine county, to furnish teachers ; but can hardly supplyhis own county. YVe give the names oi teachers engaged to teach in this county, as far as learned : Air. Win. Fiddler, at Vandorn's, No. 2 ; Mr. J. H. llyzer, at Soda Springs, N«>. 7 ; Mr. J. W. Stanley, Ma nzanita, No. 6 ; No. 3 has been abolished and attached to No. 6, the Superintend ent having received a petition to that effect, prop erly signed, by voters of both districts ; Miss Jen nie Caton, Dardanelles, No. 17 ; Miss Belle Col ver, No. 8 ; Miss Emma Bench, Wagner creek, No. 22 ; Miss Maggie Hutchison, No. 10 ; Miss Annet ta Gore, North l‘ha?nix,No.—. Several precincts are yet without teachers. L ocal E ditor —D ear S ir : On my way to Church last Sunday, 1 passed near a crowd of boys who were playing ball. Their noise was suf ficient to disturb the minds and nerves of all per sons in that neighborhood, who were accustomed to or might de-ire quiet or. the Sabbath ; and their language—both profane and obscene—would more befit a pirate crew, than citizens of an incorporate and Christian town. If boys cannot find time to play ball, or other games, during the week, and must play on Sunday, I insist that they remove their playgrounds to the country, where they will not disturb the quiet of citizens, or insult the cus toms of the country, Please «all attention to the matter in the N ews .
