• C ounty R oad S urvey ’.—The following
“facts and figures,” concerning the survey of
the road from Jacksonville West, via Willow
Springs, Rock Point and Louse Creek, to the
county line, was furnished us by Surveyor
Howard; Commenced at lhe intersection of
California «nd Oregon streets, running on
the old road to West eud of Bybee’s lane ;
thence turning to the right, by and through
the lands of Kilgore and Armstrong, by
Sears and Levers, and intersecting the old
road at Tbos. Wright’s place, near the 5
mile poet; thence by the old road to Willow
Springs, Gj miles ; to Dardanells, 11 miles ;
12 miles to near Gall’s creek. Here we turn
ed to the right and followed the course of the
river to the bridge at Rock Point—distance
to White’s store 13} miles—thence following
the old road all the way to the county line.
^To Evans creek bridge, 19} miles ; to Ilun-
iter’s ferry, 23} miles ; to Dry Diggings, 25
miles ; to Croxton’s Station, 28} miles; to
Louse creek, 31} miles, and 32 miles and 68
rods to the county line.

S inging C lass .—A class in music will be
formed «ext Wednesday evening, at the M.
E. Church. Everybody is invited ; and all
can become members who wish, free of
■charge. Through lhe liberality of citizens
•here, enough money Las been subscribed to
procure books, und furnish light and fuel for
lhe term. A seiies of lessons will first be
given in the rudiiuents of music, after which
the class will have regular rehearsals. This
is a good way to spend an agreeable evening;
and we are satisfied that everyone having a
spark of music in his soul will respond to the

management of Mr. E. C. Brooks, one of the
most competent teachers of music on the
Coast.

Proceedings of the Democratic Central
Committee.
Pursuant to call the Democratic Central Commit
tee met at Jacksonville, Jan. 28th, 1870. Pres
ent—W. F. Songer, Chairman; John S. Miller,
Thos. Wright, and John O’Brien, by II. Klippel,
proxy. The following proceedings were had :
It was ordered that primary conventions be held
on the 5th of February, to elect delegates to the
County Convention ; and that a County Conven
tion be held at the Court House, in Jacksonville, on
Saturday, the 12th of February, to select delegates
to attend the Democratic State Convention, to con
vene at Albany, March 23d, 1870.

O ffending C hinamen .—Two Chinamen
was arrested this week—one for the unlawful
carrying on of the “wood business,” and the
other for rash and untimely belligerent dem
onstrations. The first, who had in his pos
session a considerable amount of firewood,
feloniously obtained,—was, on account of
bis prepossessing appearance, and well known
industrious (?) habits, discharged. The
other one, accused of “too muchee fightee,”
was fined the “round sum” and turned loose.
R ituknkd ,—Sheriff Reames, who went to
Portland with the insane man,—Gardner,—
ketprned last Thursday, having had a some-
•what slow and tedious trip.
S ocial Hop.—There will be a dance at
Horne’s Hall, on next Tuesday night. Music
has been secured.

Treasurer. Sam. Clark, Fittock, McPherson,
Van Cleave, all want to be Printer. Terry, Church,

of State. We don’t hear of Dowell’s name in
connection with Gubernatorial honors any more.
