VOTE FOR CARNIVAL KING AND QUEEN
The work of preparing lor th
Bandon Carnival which is to be
held under the auspices of the Com
mercial Cbub is progressing veiy
rapidly and the success of the ven
ture is now an assured fact. That
the money necessary to finance the
proposition will be forth coming
is evidenced from the fact that con
siderable over $200 has been
raised by volunteer subscriptions,
the paper having never been cir
culated.
It is thought that the matter of
raising $800 to $1000 will be com
paratively easy in the face of the
fact that so much has been raised by
volunteer subscription.
The voting for Carnival King ami
Queen has been started. Seven
voting places have been secured.
They are: Trowbridge’s store, Rosa
Co’s. store, both drug stores, Mars’
Confectionery, Arc Light Bowling
alley, and Smith Bros, and Sidwell.
Votes will be ten cents each.
Tickets and envelopes will be pro
vided for at each place and voters
are requested to place the ticket and
money in the envelope and seal the

lesson the danger to standing tim

in Northwestern States,. the Wall
ington State Forest Fire Associa
tion will start a campaign for the
substitution of oil as fuel in locomo
tives. Every year during the dry
season, millions of feet of valuable
timber are destroyeil as the result of
flying sparks from locomotives.
This is a great loss in wealth of one
of the state’s most valuable natural
resources. President Earling of the

They will be used in Washington,

President Earling believes that the
use of oil will prove an economical
innovation. As a result of 83 ser
ious fires along railway lines in
New York State last year, its pub
lie service corporation has decreed
that oil must be burned by locomo
tives. An effort will be made to
persuade the Washington Railway
Commission to make a similar ruling.
The matter will also be pressed in
other timber states of the country.
