Telegraph Co. has been in Bandon
for a few days arranging for the in
stalling of a wireless station at this
place. Mr. Manuel informed the
R ecorder that the station was an
assured fact and would be iust -lied
just as soon as the company could
get "around to do the work.
There
are a number of stations being in -
stalled along the coast and each will
receive attention in its turn, but at
the outside it will only be a few
months until the station will be in
operation.
The United Wireless company is
negotiating with a number of steam
ship lines doing business along the
coast to equip all their vessels with
wireless, and the probabilities are
that every ¡every steamer and many
sailing vessels plying along the
coast will be equipped in a short
time.
It may not be generally known,
but the fact is that there is a bill
pending in congress at the present
time to compel all ocean going ves
sels, whether passenger or freight,
and whether steamer or sail to equip
with wireless for the protection of
the passengers and crew', as well as
the vessels.
Mr. Manuel was very much
pleased with the prospects for his
station at Bandon and thinks it will
be a paying proposition from the
start.
The wireless has contracts for es
tablishing many hundred stations in
the United States in the near fu
ture and are negotiating with four
teen different countries of the world
for the establishing of systems. The
United Wireless is the outcome of
about twenty-five different compan
ies that have started at various times
and they are now combined so as to
push business with all rapidity.
A station at Bandon will be of
almost incalcuable value both in a
commercial and a maratime way,
and_citizens here are very enthusiastic
over the new station which is so
soon to be installed.
Mr. Manuel will be here quite
frequently during the next thirty
days in the interests of his company
and will push the work as rapidly as
possible.
From all appearances it
will not be long until Bandonians
can send messages to their friends
on board the vessels coming into
port.
The station will be a great pro
tection to vessels in time of storm
and will do away with much of the
perils of sea faring.
