Steamer Held to Await Amer
•C4M» Election
Tokio, Oct. jo-In order that the
prominent
Americans who have
taken passage on the steamer Mon
golia may learn the result of the
election in the United States, the
departure of the vessel has been de
layed a day, and will sail on No
vember 5. Among those who are
leaving for the United States are Mr.
and Mrs. Frank B. Loomis, and a
number of the Pacific coast business
men who uisited Japan as represent
atives of Coast chambers of com-
merce.
MIND YOUR BUSINESS
ject of his ad is to keep the people
informed of what he has to offer
them, to keep, his name constantly
before the people all the time.
Dropping water wears away a
stone. So it is with advertising.
Drive, pound, hammer your name
and what you have to offer into the
people. That’s the secret of suc
cessful advertising.-Tillamook Her

In Fairness to Captain Rees
L. A. R asmason .
Captain Rees of the steamer Ban
don which touched the bar when
leaving Tillamook three weeks ago,
proved himself,'a seaman and a cool,
level headed one as well. Tillamook
bar is, shifting out at this season of
the year.
This accident shows that
a tug boat is absolutely necessary
lor the bay. Lumber schooners can
not wait days and weeks for the
Vosburg to come and tow them in
and out. Steam schooners require
a pilot if they have never made this
port.
Many a captain under the
same circumstances as thr Bandon
wa.-, in would have lost his ship. It
was through the cool headedness and
seamanship displayed by the captain
and officers that the Bandon today is
not piled up a total wreck. As well
as we can learn every precaution was
taken.
Two leads were going all
the tune and the steamer was in the
channel which was sate when shecame
in but in the meantime, as often hap
pens at this season of the year,
a hog back had formed and the chan
nel shifted.
Those who came in
contact with Captain Rees after he
had got his vessel afloat by throwing
her broadside to the breakers and so
lifting her off, state that the cap was
as cool and gave his orders as calmly
as though he were going down the
river-and Captain Rees has got an
unusually quick temper when any
thing crosses him. So it shows that
danger, instead of exciting him but
calms him. The owners have a good
man, and one who does not lose his
head. His officers s|»eak very highly
ot him.-Tillamook Herald.
