T he C oos Bay Times has just
discovered that the citv of Bandon
will be unable to have the tax col
lector collect its taxes for too1*,
through a neglect of our municipal
authorities to notify the county clerk
at the proper time. The R ecordek
concedes there was an oversight,
but ir has been known for soint
months in this section. However
Bandon will not suflei materially by
the error, as we have no bonded
indebtedness noyv < xiMing, simpL
owing tor a tire engine and a few
outstanding municipal warrants,
whereas there will be $2,« too < r
$2,500 of license money to be paid
in shortly. No, we cm meet tin
situation without any percept ibb
hardship, Bio. Times.
Charter Mass Meeting
By order of the city council a mass
meeting of the citizens of Bandon is
hereby called for next Tuesday eve
ning at 8 o’clock at the city hall for
the purpose of discussing the pro
posed charter to be voted on Marc
30th. Proponents
r
and opponents of
the question are all invited to ► be
present.

R. D. Hume, whose winter home
is at Piedmont. Cal., was in Salem
last week ami told a reporter that he
had made all his plans to give away
large holdings of lands on a new
plan that will bring many settlers to
Curry county. He proposes Io cut
up the larger pail of 15,000 acres
into 2C-ai re tracts and give eac 1
family locating on one of them a
cow, a pig and some chickens, and
then let them have the land rent
free for five years. The other 15
years he will ask them to pay $2 per
acre rent and the taxes, and at the
end of that time they .will get a deed
to the property. Besides they wi I
have free timber and the use of a
sawmill to cut all the lumber needed
for improvements. The experiment
will be tried first with 20 families.
If that succeeds he will locate 20
ir ore families. He intends to make
