speaking of its importance:
I consider that the coming Alaska-
Yukon Pacific Exposition will be one
of the most important ever held in
the United States from a commercial
standpoint. The awakening of the
Pacific, and the tremendous trade
possibilities that will be consequent
upon a thorough exploitation of
Alaska and the Yukon territory, the
Orient and all the conutries bordering
upon tiie Pacific ocean witii a popula
tion of over nine hundred million,
makes this exposition the best and
most attractive agency for bringing
about doser trade relations between
these countries and the United Stales

If Mr. Bryan expects to gain the
favor of the voters in Oregon he will
have to look upon the River and Har
bor Bill in an entirely different light.
T here is an Health Officer in At
lantic City that says that kissing
causes la grippe. Ho states that 9
per cent of the kisses are germ laden
and that a bill should be ¡atssed to
provide means for having notices
posted in every public place and rail
way stations. Fancy a sterilized kiss!
Cupid will have to take a back seat
until after “griptime.”
A D emonstration showing the
rapid growth of this country was
made in the recent tripof the Kilborn
to Marshfield from Portland. She
carried SO passengers which is the
capacity of the boat, and left a large
number at Portland who wanted to
leave on her. Five hundred tone of
freight was loft on the docks as she '
was loaded to the top. Several pas
sengers hail to go without berths on
account, of the large number present.
This shows that we are developing
too fast for the old commodities, and
that something must be done very
shortly to accommodate the traveling
public.
