Last Sunday. Dec. 16th, whh the
fiftieth or golden wedding anniver-
sary of Mr. and Mrs. William Gallier
of Bsndon. It is matter for sincere
regret that tbe important event could
not be observed, as the children par
ticularly of tbe respected couple bad
devoutly hoped it could be
But
sickness unfortunately laid claim up
on tbe aged mother at a time noppor-
tune for tbe carrying out of elaborate
plans, and the arrangements reluct
antly were abandoned.
It was tbe plan of the children (and
they are all alive and residents of
Bandon), to give tbe venerable con pie
a surprise iu tbe shape of au elaborate
dinner to which friends both here and
abroad would be invited, and tbe cus
tomary details of a golden wedding
were to tie carried out iu tbe nicest
form, but alas for tbe causes at tbe
final and joyful moment! However,
we are pleased to say that tbe illness
of "Grandma" Gallier is not such as
to cause alarm among her family and
bust of friends.
Fifty long years have marked the
wedded bliss of Mr. aud Mrs. Wm.
Gallier, and truthfully they have been
fifty years fraught with tbe utmost
joy and happiness. That more years
will be spared them among their loved
ones and friends is the earnest voice
of the entire community, tbe R ecorder
heartily concurring.

Sneak boats, swivel guns and oiirn-
erous other destructive agencies to hie
‘‘ducksbip’’ were prohibited in the
late game laws, but what is doiug
more by far to exterminate the festivy
and fleet-winged bird in this section—
the gasoline boat- was omitted.
More ducks are being driven out
of tbe country by use of tbe lattri
than all the other devices that could
be improvised. It is no uncommon
occurrence to see a buucb of dead
game sports mounted on tbe deck of
a gasoline launch at high tide and ii
pursuit of a flock of ducks. They
are chased from oue end of the bay
to tbe other, and ultimately depar
for fields green [and (^stores new,
where they can escape the ceaseless
“bang from the gasoline sportsmen
It seems strange, but ducks have
no fear of the approaching gasoline
launch, and large bags are secured in
this mauuer. Then, too. tbe great
objection to this mode of bunting
ducks is tbe amount of territory cov
ered iu a single day’s sport.
I tie Legislature this winter will be
petitioned to prohibit this mode of
bunting, and it is earnestly hoped
that our law makers will heed the
prayer of tbe people. If we are to
preserve these birds for the future,
tbe gasoline hunter will certainly
have to be eliminated. — Coos Bay
