Volume XXII Everybody Talks About Coos Bay. Outsiders Very Much Inter ested in the Coos Bay Country. Mr. I. 8. Kaufman, who went to Hpokane about a month ago to dis pose of bia interests io that city and move to Marshfield as a permanent location, returned with good news for the Coos Bay country. Incidentally, it might be mentioned that he brought Mrs. Kaufman with him and will soon erect a modern home io Marshfield. Their household effects have been shipped from the imperia! city of the interior sod city and should arrive here within a few days Spokane being Mr. Kaufman's for mer home, the people of that city naturally were inquisitive about Coos Bay, aud be was swamed with in quiries concerning this country. He stated to a Times representative that Coos Bay is on the lips of nearly everybody on tbe outside, particular ly in Spokane aod Portland. As soon as the people where be stopped found be was from tbis country they were insistent on bis telling them every thing be could about tbe prospects aod resources. A number of Spokane men of wealth declared tbeir inten tion of coming to Coos Bay in the near future with the thought of in teresting themselves with us. Asked as to what are tbe matters which attract outsiders, Mr. Kaufman said: “While io Spokane several of my friends came to me and congratulated me and tbe Coos Bay country over tbe probability of tbe Chicago and Northwestern coming to tbe Bay. when I asked them bow they bad j learned all this, they stated that tbeir I connections such that they had inside information and that Coos Bay might depend on tbe tip beiog authentic. Tbe fact tbal so many railroads are beaded tbis way is conclusive proof of tbe recoguition of our country » as tbe future locality that will make a BANDON, wouderful progress. When the rail roads become interested in a county, its future is assured. ’ When Mr. Kaufman reached Dram be found a scene of activity stretched from that busy little city along the route to a poiut seveial miles this side of Elkton, and everywhere ap pearance sottgeeted the greatest per fection of system and strenuousness The contractors now have in the neighborhood of a thousand men at work on the line and the paraphernalia including implements, mules and other utilities, are of the highest grade. Mr. Kaufman met a promi nent Northwest contractor while ab sent, who had lately looked over the second stretch of the survey with a view of taking a contract for th* work for about twenty miles this side of Elkton. He said that the Southern Pacific is anxious to let this part of the road and hurry the whole line through just as fast as labor can push it. On the route from Drain to Elk ton Mr. Kaufman passed about four different camps of workmeu, aud learned that the preliminary grade has been completed for about four miles from Drain. The Loss company has winter quarters ready al Elkton and along the route, and say they are going to work on the tunnels all winter. Even now the surface work has been finished on some of the tun nets, and the heavy boring is about to commence. Large quantities of supplies are stored at Drain, such as cement, rails aud other accessories.— Daily Times. And now it is said that tbe “Coos Bay Country”—which in thia instance means tbe Coquille Valley—is to be the principal source from which must come tbe lumber for ship building purposes on tbe coast. Tbe Coquille is at last being discovered. Don't forget that Dr. Steele, dentist, is located in Bandon. Complete Line Just Received This store is replete with everything in high grade furnishings. The Port Orford cedar lumber brought here yesterday by the steam er Alliance to be transhipped to Greenport, New York, came from Cooa Bay and is said to be the beet material obtainable for boat building by reason of the fact that it is clear and does not decay eveu when ex posed to the water. The shipment brought this time amounts to 16,(MX) feet only, but it is said that the lumber is being intro duced among the eastern boat aud shipbuilders with such success that before long much larger qualities will be ordered. In fact, it is believed that the mills down Coos Bay way will be called upon to supply moat of (he lumber for launches and pleasure boats being turned out by the large factories iu the Atlautic coast cities —Portland Journal. ---- ooo— Warner is Coming. My visit to Coos county last year was cut short by a message to “hurry home'’ on account of sickness. Now. however, I hope to meet all my old patrons. I wish to state that my work is not limited to tuniug pianos—the action of pianoB in my care is carefully at tended to aud will need nothing else done to them as long as iu my charge Unusual cases of polishing and re pairs, at reasonable prices to be agreed upon. Iu view of the fact that other tuners are claiming to be “partners of War- uer," aud that “Warner is not com ing here any more,’’ aud other of like import, a word of caution might save you money. Warner can do anything necessary to be done to pianos, aud do it right, and at right prices. Warner will be in Bandon in a week or thereabouts to attend to busi ness iu bis liue.
