Some boys playing around the rock
quarry last Sunday found a giant
powder cap aud proceeded at once to
celebrate. A fuse was attached ami a
match applied. The fireworks did
not follow as quickly as they thought
it should aud the ume-year old son of
tV. H. Evans, a camper, started to in
vestigate. A giant cap was a new
thing to him aud while the investiga
tiou was taking place the cap ex
ploded. Two of the boy's fingers
were shattered and boles punctured
in bis arm to the elbow by pieces of
the copper jacket. One piece struck
him in the eye and the seat of his
pants was riddled. Dr. Houston says
he extracted about thirty small
pieces of copper from the boy’s aua
toruy. The boy is able to be around
and may consider himself lucky that
this is the case.

The steamer Dispatch came down
from Coquille Sunday with about one
hundred excursionists who came to
see the sea aud spend the day in
“Boomiug Bandon.’’
With them
came the Coquille band which en
livened the journey by discoursing
first-class music at intervals. Tbs
excursion boat arrived here about 11
o’clock and was met at the wharf by
the celebrated Bandon Concert Band
aud two or three hundred of Bandon's
beauty and brawn to bid them wel
come,
Ao open air concert was given by
the bauds at the Tupper House park,
after which the visitors took in the
town, Some went to the beach to
listen to the wild waves whisper,
others strolled off to visit friends
and a few others went around the
corner “to see a man.”
The ball game in the afternoon
proved to be au uninteresting feature.
Mauy of the Coquille players failed
to catch the boat aud as a result a
team was selected that was no match
for the home team. At the end of
the fifth inmug the score was 8 to 0.
In the sixth inning Bandon put in a
new pitcher aud Coquille made five
runs. W ben Bandon came to bat the
boys put five more men over the
plate making the score 13 to 5 in
favor of Baudon. The game was so
tame that the crowd left and went
elsewhere to enjoy themselves and
the game was called off.
About five o’clock the Dispatch
pulled out for Coquille, the bauds
playing a parting farewell ami liatH
