If reports cirenlato.l and remark)
dropped are indicative of anything
they lead ns to think that the average
aaloon keeper baa but a low opinion
of the business he baa engaged in
An ex saloon keeper, who added hit
mite to help the temperance cans)
along, remarked: ‘"The saloon ongbt
not to be allowed to exist." A saloon
keeper, speaking of Lis son who war
engaged in the business, also said,
naming bis boy: “He is too good a
boy to be ruined in the saloon busi
ness and I will got him out of it." A
young man who was io the business
in speaking to a friend, remarked: “I
have higher ambitious and will ge:
ont of the saloon business." Stil'
another remark that dropped from s
young woman whose husband was ii
the liquor traffic, rather caps all at
to the esteem of a saloon keeper foi

cnssioo was the raising of offspring,
ami the lady remarked that her hus
band would not rear any children at
long as he fallowed the business In

Our Legislative tulent at Salem it

of the property of the Deer Brewert
and W holesale Whiskey Association,
claiming that it is practically confis
cation to close them ont of business
on so short notice as the present Lo
ch I Option law provides for.
In th«
first place, the liquor traffic is only
permitted on suffrage, having com)
under the ban of law. hence, tboe.
who have engaged in it have done ffo
knowing that an objecting majority
conld close their business, bene«
there is no truth in the claim of con
fiscation, but there is confiscation of
property when those who oppose th)
whiskey traffic hove to help pay th*
costs imposed for crimes committed by
persons while under the influence of
liquor. If the liquor traffic is of somucl
importance, let those who profit by ii
pay the damages that follow in its
wake aud not confiscate other prop
erty to bear the burden. Oregon’s
law makers might take such proposi
tion under consideration with profit
to themselves and their constituents
Revival

in
Wales
What is going on in Wales just
now is almost worthy of tbe-nameof
a social revolution. From the sobei
account of the results given by the
correspondent of the “Standard," we
extract a few of the poiuts. The
break-up of tbo Football Clubs con
tinues, many of tbo players becoming
converts. Match fixtures are being
cancelled on all hands. Crime in
South Wall's has sunk to zero, and at
tfie weekly Petty Sessions on Satur
day. the Police Court calendar in tb-
towns was unprecedentedly low. The
same week in a normal year is usually
one of abundant riot, drunkenness
and disorder. In the thoatres ruin
stares the managers in tbn face. All
sorts of lectures, dances, and enter
taiumeuts aro desorted in favour
of prayer meetings. All tradesmen
except the publicans, report that
they have bensfitted greatlv, the peo
pie apparently having taken to ex
pending on food and clothes what
they have saved on liquor. Strangest
result of al), “long lost debtors have
sought out their creditors, and, their
consciences having troubled them
through tbo influence of conversion,
have either discharged their long
standing ¡liability or mado a: range
ments therefore."
Will onr Saloon friends rise and
explain how the above facts agree
with their assertions that the Saloons

liver regulator. This groat family
medicine is not a strong and
drastic drug, but a mild and
healthful laxative that cures con
stipation and may be taken by a
mere child without possible
harm.
The healthful action on tbe liver
cures bilioasness. It has an in

Racause the liver and kidneys do

Timely treatment with Thed

dangers which lurk in constipation,
liver and kidney troubles, and will
positively f-.restall the inroads of

ease in advanced stages there is
no cure. Ask your dealer for a
