We learn that five year« before the
war began the Japanese commenced
sending coolies by the hundreds into
Manchuria, with instructions to live
with tbe Chinese therein, fraternize
with them, and be in position to fur
nish true information, when the war
began, to the Japanese, and false ad
vices to the Russians. The secrecy
which tbe Japanese commanders have
been able to maintain as to tbe move
ments of their army—a secrecy that
Kuropatkin has over and over again
acknowledged himself to be unable to
illume — shows bow admirably tbe
Japanese’ efforts in this direction
have been applied, aud bow com
pletely they were prepared for tbe
campaign they knew to be a question

The stereotyped plea of ucreadineas

the cartsa of tbe defeat of tbe Slavs.
General Kuropatkin, iu taking tbe ag

probably never more appalling than
they have been in this fierce struggle

tragedies of gory battlefields in tbe
