of au orange and rub it thoroughly
all over the shoe or boot and allow it
to dry. Then brush briskly with a
soft brush until it sbiDes like a look

banana skin. This is rubbed well
and evenly all over the shoe, and re

giving a fine polish, which last is
brought out by using a flannel cloth
for wiping dry and another clean
flannel for polishing. A slice of lemon
is also used as a tan leather dressing.
Patent leather must never be blacked
or polished with anything but au oil.
They are tbe hardest kind of sboeB to
keep in good order. It is necessary
to take a clean sponge and cleau
them from al! dirt before applying
the oil. It may then be rubbed dry
at once with a flannel or other soft
cloth which will not scratch tbe pat
