The Sunday school picnic, last
Friday near Bullards, was quite well
attended and a pleasant day was en

something over a hundred people in
attendance and bad the news been
given out sooner, tbe attendance
would have been greater. There is
some talk of giving another picnic

MISCELLANEOUS.
On Tuesday the telephone an
nounced the death of S. H. Hazard,
of Marsfifield, one of Coos county's
most worthy citizens. The following
particulars are taken from tho Coos
Buy News, publÍHlie i lust Tuesday:
Mr. Hazard had been devoting part
of bis time lately to looking after his
trotting horses, in which be took a
great interest. While driving one of
them on the track, Friday, he over
exerted himself and, us ft result, was
attacked with a muscular affection of
the heart. His most intimate friends
anticipated no serious consequences,
and it was an unexpected and severe
shock when the sad news was learned
this morning.—Few men are so uni
versally esteemed as was Mr. Hazard,
Honorable, upright and straight for
ward; the possessor of those sterling
qualities which bound with ties of
friendship and regard those with
whom business or social relations
brought him in contact. Openbeart-
ed and liberal to a marked degree,
always ready to render assistance
where needed, aud with a kind word
and fiearty clasp of the hand toebeer
tbe downcast and offer sympathy to
tbe distressed. His publie spirit, and
tbe desire to forward enterprises that
would be of benefit to the section in
which he lived, is well known. His
legal ability was recognized all over
the state, ami he was unanimously
accorded a lending place among the
lawyers of the Northwest.
