WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed a bi-
partisan resolution led by Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Brian Schatz,
who serve as vice chairman and chairman of the Senate Committee on
Indian Affairs, honoring the achievements of Alaska Native, American
Indian and Native Hawaiian women.
“It is during Women’s History Month that we refl ect on the many
contributions women have made that pushed our country forward,”
Murkowski said. “Native women have helped shape our country in
areas of military service, arts, science, culture, language, human
rights and sports, to name a few. Since 2018, I have had the honor to
introduce a resolution recognizing the heritage, culture and contribu-
tions of many American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian
women in the United States, including Mary Jane Fate, Katie John,
Elizabeth Peratrovich and Laura Beltz Wright from Alaska. I am
proud that my colleagues in the Senate supported this resolution as
we celebrate all women.”
“Every day, American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian
women make countless contributions to our communities and country,
and it’s critical that we recognize their impacts on American history,”
Schatz said. “As we celebrate Women’s History Month, I’m proud to
partner with Vice Chairman Murkowski on this resolution to honor
the achievements and legacies of Native women.”
