million supplemental budget during its
Wednesday, Nov. 8, meeting to fund the
construction of ove houses in the home owner-
ship development project east of Grand Ronde
Road off McPherson Road after a lending mis-
understanding affected ove potential buyers.
Five Tribal member mortgage applicants who
were interested in building in the Tribal project
were incorrectly notioed that a Housing & Urban
Development Section 184-approved lender would
not provide loans for new construction on Grand
Ronde Tribal lands despite HUD guidelines
stating that new construction is eligible for the
federally-backed loans.
<With Section 184 onancing, borrowers can get
into a home with a low down payment and nex-
ible underwriting,= HUD states on its website.
<Loans can be used, both on and off Native lands,
for new construction, rehabilitation, purchase of
an existing home, or reonance.=

Four decades of Restoration to be celebrated

ov. 22, 1983, is a day that
will forever be etched in
Grand Ronde Tribal his-
tory because it was the day that
President Ronald Reagan signed
House Resolution 3885, restoring
the Grand Ronde Tribe to federal
recognition.
The Tribe had been terminated
29 years before and his signature
on the bill ofocially ended that dark
time.
Now, the Tribe is preparing to
celebrate 40 years of Restoration
and all of the accomplishments that
have come with it.
