The 4,200-foot peak was previously called Swastika Mountain, a name that became controversial because of its association with Nazism and Hitler9s Third Reich. Tribal member David Lewis, who is an assistant professor of anthropology and ethnic and Indigenous studies at Oregon State University, said renaming the peak was necessary because of its association with World War II and fascism.
