DEAN RHODES
General Council briefed
on investment values
By Dean Rhodes
Smoke Signals editor
A representative from Robert W.
Baird & Co. Inc. briefed the general
membership on the Grand Ronde
Tribe’s investment portfolio during
the hybrid General Council meeting
held Sunday, Oct. 2, on the Zoom
teleconferencing application and in
Tribal Council Chambers.
Approximately 80 Tribal and staff
members attended the meeting on-
line and in person. The 30-minute
briefing was presented in executive
session, which limits how much
Smoke Signals can report on the
content.
Baird Director Joseph Hoon made
the presentation and fielded seven
questions and comments from the
membership during the session.
Tribal members who did not at-
tend the meeting, but would like to
see the presentation, should contact
Tribal Council Chief of Staff Stacia
Hernandez at stacia.martin@gran-
dronde.org or call 503-879-2304 to
obtain a copy.
In other action, Tribal Council
Chairwoman Cheryle A. Kennedy
announced that the next General
Council meeting will be at 11 a.m.
Sunday, Nov. 6, with an executive
session review of the proposed 2023
budget.
Dustin Leno, Josephine Ingra-
ham, Desiree Allen, Peter Grout and
Joanna Brisbois won the $50 door
prizes. Brenda Gray, Bill Stephens
and Ron Tuomi won the $100 door
prizes. Tuomi donated his winnings
to Grand Ronde Food Bank.
The non-executive session portion
of the meeting can be viewed by
visiting the Tribal government’s
website at www.grandronde.org
and clicking on the Government tab
and then Videos. 
Correction — A story in the Oct. 1 edition of Smoke Signals incorrect-
ly stated that Jasmine Manangan was the daughter of Rosetta LaBonte
Manangan. Her mother’s name is Rosetta Castro Manangan. Smoke
Signals regrets the error.
