Dear Smoke Signals:
The picture of my great-grandmother, Jenny Riggs, has hung in the
casino for many years. The powers that be decided to remove her picture,
among others, and replace them with slots. Don’t we have enough already?
Jenny died in January 1938. I was born in 1936. When I was a baby,
Jenny used to hang on to my foot to keep me from crawling off the bed.
How many Indians out there can say they have actually touched the hand
of an ancestor who was driven to this land? Not many! Because of that, I
have always felt a special connection to Jenny.
So where is Jenny now? Shame on you people for doing that.
