LIHWAP program is open
The Low Income Home Water Assistance Program assists with water
bills that are current or past due, and also assists with rates and fees
associated with reconnection.
LIHWAP assistance is a limited funded and first-come, first-served
program. Income criteria applies. Eligible Tribal members must reside in
the six-county service area or Clackamas County. For more information,

Leno announces Tribal
Council candidacy
Former Tribal Council Chairman Reyn Leno an-
nounced on his Facebook page on Friday, May 13,
that he intends to run for Tribal Council this year.
Leno, 71, joins incumbents Denise Harvey and
Kathleen George in announcing their intended can-
didacies. Incumbent Jack Giffen Jr. is not running,
ending his 18 years of service on Tribal Council.
Leno served 21 consecutive years on Tribal
Reyn Leno
Council from 1996 to 2017. He also served as Tribal
Council chair for five years from 2012 to 2017.
Since leaving Tribal Council in 2017, Leno has mounted two at-
tempts at rejoining the Tribe’s governing board, finishing fourth in
both 2019 and 2020.
Official Tribal Council nominations will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday,
June 26, during a special General Council meeting. 
Tribal Student Grant
application is open
SALEM – The Higher Education Coordinating Commission announced
that the application for the Oregon Tribal Student Grant for 2022-23 is
now open. The grant is a new state financial aid program supported by
the Oregon Legislature’s 2022 investment in equitable access and success
for Tribal students.
The grant will pay for most or all public college-related expenses, includ-
ing tuition, housing, books and other costs not covered by other grants for
students who are enrolled members of Oregon’s nine federally recognized
Tribes. The grant can be used for undergraduate and graduate study at
Oregon public colleges and universities, as well as eligible private non-
profit institutions.
Application deadline is Aug. 1. Students must submit the Oregon Tribal
Student Grant application and either a 2022-23 Free Application for Fed-
eral Student Aid or Oregon Student Aid Application.
The grant will apply to the estimated average total cost of attendance
and grant amounts will vary based on each student’s college choice and
enrollment level. Private institution awards will be capped at the average
Oregon public university cost of attendance.
