Ralph Lawrence Byron
Nov. 28, 1934 – Feb. 11, 2022
Tribal Elder Ralph L. Byron passed away in
Palm Springs, Calif., on Feb. 11, 2022, at the
age of 87.
Ralph was born in Bellingham, Wash., on Nov.
28, 1934, to parents Lawrence and Florence By-
ron. He graduated from Garfield High School in
1953 and the University of Washington in 1957.
Both schools were located in Seattle.
Ralph served in the U.S. Navy after gradu-
ation. He was a certified public accountant in
Seattle until his retirement.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents;
sisters, Barbara and Donna; and his friend,
Robert Brighton. Survivors include his partner, Christian Durand; sister,
Judy Sheridan; nieces, Tina Mourer and Rhonda (Ron) Johnson; nephew,
Robert Hall; grandnephews, Kevin (Samantha) Mourer, Chris Mourer
and Bodie L. Franklin; great-great-niece, Katie Mourer; and great-great-
nephews, Bradley, Jacob and Riley Mourer.
Burial will be private at Lake View Cemetery in Seattle. Memorial
contributions can be made to the Seattle Men’s Chorus, Garfield Golden
Grads or the Hospice of Seattle.
Traci Sorell, co-author of “Indian No More,” will be in Grand Ronde for
an author reading/book signing event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in
the Tribal gym. The event is open to all.
Sorrel’s book, geared toward middle school readers, explores the effects
of 1950s era Termination policies on an Umpqua family.
The spring reading program also starts April 7. Registration ended
Friday, April 1. All ages are welcome to participate.

Philamena C. Hoehnke
July 6, 1949 – March 15, 2022
Tribal Elder Philamena C. Hoehnke passed on Tuesday, March 15, 2022,
at the age of 72. Crown Memorial Center of Tualatin, Ore., is assisting
the family.

Donald Edwin Haller
Aug. 8, 1942 – March 23, 2022
Tribal Elder Donald Edwin Haller of El Cajon, Calif., passed on Wednes-
day, March 23, 2022, at the age of 79. Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mor-
tuary in Bonita, Calif., is assisting the family.

Anna H. Hyde
Dec. 13, 1925 – March 26, 2022
Tribal Elder Anna H. Hyde passed on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the
age of 96. At the time of her walking on, she was the Grand Ronde Tribe’s
fifth eldest Elder.
Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria, Ore., is assisting the family.
