For these individuals, repeated experiences of trauma tend to ingrain certain values, beliefs, and behavioral patterns and this experience has been more recently labeled in literature as “Complex PTSD.” This presentation will highlight how to better understand, help support, and treat those who have experienced a “lifestyle” of trauma versus a singular event. It will discuss the thematic differences between PTSD and Complex PTSD and ways our treatment protocols can be enhanced to facilitate posttraumatic growth in Veteran populations. Presented by, Jason C. Steward, Ph.D. Jason is the Acting Chief of Psychology for the Alaska VAHCS. He is also the Acting Director of Training in Psychology, and Supervisory Psychologist in the Mental Health Clinic. Along with his various roles in training, he works clinically within the service providing individual, couple, and family therapy. And, Whole Health: A New Model of Healthcare for Veterans. Whole Health is an exciting new approach to health and well-being. It is based on a strong collaboration between Veteran and provider, and is based on what matters the most in the Veteran’s life. This presentation will review the history of the Whole Health model, the basic principles of Whole Health, and how Veterans can start to apply this model in their lives.
