Book Review: “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones. This is a story about love, marriage and circumstance. Celestial and Roy are a newly married couple who have their lives torn apart when Roy is accused and convicted of a horrible crime he didn’t commit. While I sympathized with the characters in this story, they weren’t very relatable. They had me shaking my head at a lot of the decisions and choices they made. I felt like these characters went back and forth being way over dramatic or not being dramatic enough about things that they should be. The ending was my favorite part, not because it was over but because one of the characters actually made a sensible decision; a decision that was for the better and a decision that made sense. Maybe I am being too critical? There are quite a few people on Goodreads who would disagree with me. Check it out and let me know what you think. — Reviewed by Crystal Bigelow Donations: A special thank you to the Chinuk class, the Cultural Resources Department, Kathleen George, Martina Gilbert and Dennis Hemeon for their contributions to the Tribal Library.
