Canoe Journey approaching
Tribal youth interested in participating in this year’s Paddle to
Lummi Canoe Journey should contact Youth Prevention Manager
Nicole Hewitt at 503-879-1471 for more information.
Cold water training will be held on Saturday, June 15, on the Salm-
on River. Participants will meet at the Tribal Community Center at 8
a.m. before leaving at 8:30. Transportation and lunch will be provided.
Youth 14 and older can participate in the mid-July Canoe Journey. 

Grand Ronde Tribal member John Wesley Runningbird, 36, walked on
Wednesday, May 30, from injuries sustained in a crash south of Newport
on Highway 101.
Oregon State Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on
Highway 101 seven miles south of Newport at about 8:18 p.m. An inves-
tigation found the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet HHR, Faith Goodman, 49,
of Willamina, had veered off the road and struck a tree while traveling
north on Highway 101 near milepost 148.
Runningbird was a passenger in the car. He lived in Grand Ronde. 

Tax Preparation
Request for Proposal
The Request for Proposals (RFP) is being conducted by the Mem-
ber Services Department for the purpose of obtaining a licensed
contractor who has 5+ years of experience preparing tax returns.
Qualified applicants shall possess the ability to:
• Provide tax preparation services to Tribal Elders and foster youth
living on and off Tribal lands.
• Assist Tribal members in completing tax-related paperwork.
• Serve as a resource to Tribal members who have questions regard-
ing payment and filing of state and federal tax returns.
Preference will be given to members of the Confederated Tribes of
Grand Ronde and/or Indian-owned businesses registered with the
Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde TERO office.
Please contact Veronica Montano for information. All proposals
must be submitted by 5 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2019.

10 spots open for Warrior Camp
The Tribe’s Youth Prevention Program has 10 spots open for the Native
Wellness Institute’s Warrior Camp scheduled to be held Monday, June
24, through Thursday, June 27, at Uyxat Powwow Grounds off Hebo Road.
The Warrior Camp is open to Native youth aged 12 to 18. A permission
form and agenda packet that includes a photo release and respect pledge
needs to be filled out.
