Upcoming Summer Library Program: Beginning on June 1, regis-
tration for the Tribal Library’s summer program will begin. This program
is for both youth and teens. “A Universe of Stories” is this year’s theme
with books, movies and prizes related to the universe and outer space.
Keep an eye out for more information.
“Little Library” locations: The Tribal Library is now overseeing the
14 Little Library locations in and around Grand Ronde. Feel free to stop
by any of these locations and grab a book for free!
DVD selection: Come check out the Tribal Library’s movie collection,
with more than 1,800 DVD’s/Blu-rays to choose from.
Oregon Battle of the Books 2018-19: Available for check out at the
Tribal Library.
Book Review: “The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson.
Shirley Jackson debuted “The Haunting of Hill House” in 1959. Since
then it has been praised by many, being called one of the scariest books
ever written. There have been movies, plays and television shows based on
the novel. I felt that while it was a good book, it did not live up to its hype.
I wouldn’t say this is one of the scariest books I’ve read; a little unsettling,
maybe, but not scary.
“The Haunting of Hill House” is the story of four people, three who have
come to Hill House after being invited by Dr. Montague, a scholar looking
to document the “haunting” of Hill House. The book's narrator Eleanor
is one of the invited guests of Hill House. She is a friendless, fragile,
insecure young woman. While at Hill House, she has a few moments of
disorientation. Whether it's supernatural, mental illness or a combination
of the two is unclear.
Throughout the novel there is a constant sense of dread, but it didn’t
really peak at any point in the book. For me, this book missed the mark,
but for some they can’t give it enough praise. Step inside Hill House and

Registration opens Saturday, June 1 and closes Friday, June 15.

Students in the Tribal Chinuk class visited the Natural Resources
Department on Tuesday, May 14. Parks and Recreation Coordinator
Jerry Bailey and Native Plant Supervisor Jay Ojua helped identify 32
native plants and trees that are growing at the Natural Resources office.
They briefed students about the plants and what they have been used
for historically. The students used pictures to help them identify the
plants and they also learned the Chinuk Wawa names for the plants.
Willamina High
graduates 62 students
WILLAMINA – Grand Ronde Tribal member Jordan Reyes shared
the valedictorian duties with Hannah Hughes during the Willamina
High School graduation ceremony held Saturday, May 25.

Youth Program
1. For youth ages 4-12. Registration is required for the Tribal Library Reading
Incentive Program. Forms need to be completed and returned to the Tribal Library
staff before closing on June 15.
2. For each book completed youth may enter into a prize drawing.
3. Book Buck Program is for ages 4-12.




Each participant must read a minimum of 10 books that are at their reading level
to receive a certificate of completion.
Registered participants will receive a log sheet to record titles of books read and
minutes of reading. Parents please monitor reading titles and minutes read.
Registered participants will receive a book buck for each 30 minutes of reading for
up to a maximum of 50 Book Bucks
Book Buck Store will be open from July 8—31
Teen Program

Incentive Program. Forms need to be completed and returned to the Tribal Library
staff before closing on June 15.




