Teaching program recruiting
Natives for Class of 2020
EUGENE – The Sapsik’WalA Teacher Education Program and the
UOTeach Program are looking for Native American and Alaska Native
students who have a desire and passion to become elementary or middle/
high school teachers.
Applications for the 2019-20 academic year are due Jan. 15.
The Sapsik’WalA Teacher Education Program offers full fi nancial assis-
tance to eligible Native American/Alaska Native students. The program
is 12 months long, beginning in June and participants graduate with a
master’s degree and teacher licensure in June 2020. It is fully funded by
a federal grant with a total support package of approximately $50,750
per student.
The program requires students to live in Eugene while completing classes
at the University of Oregon and Tribal placements for student teaching
will be considered and encouraged.
Prospective students must have completed their undergraduate educa-
tion and apply through the admissions process of UOTeach.

The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Governance Center was
aglow for the holiday season in the early morning hours on Friday, Dec.
14. The Tribe has committed to putting up Christmas lighting at the
Governance Center for three years through 2020, as well as on one tree
in Tribal Housing.
Medication drop box installed
The Grand Ronde Tribal Police Department, 9655 Grand Ronde
Road, now has a medication drop box located in the front lobby.
Lobby hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The drop box is for any prescribed or over-the-counter medication.
If the containers are too large to fi t in the drop box, please repackage
them in a zip-lock plastic bag. Tribal Police employees cannot handle
the medications so the person dropping them off must repackage
them.
Needles and liquids are not allowed in the drop box.
Tribal Police suggest mixing liquid medications with cat litter or
coffee grounds and then throwing them away with the household
trash.
