The drugs were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for disposal. This was the 16th opportunity in eight years for people to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The Police Department worked in conjunction with the Grand Ronde Health & Wellness Pharmacy and the DEA during the four-hour event. The initiative addresses a public safety and public health issue since medicines that languish in home cabinets are high susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. For more information about the disposal of prescription drugs, go to www.DEATakeBack.com. n SMOKE SIGNALS, a publication of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Commu- nity of Oregon, is published twice a month.
