seeing leadership changes
The Tribe’s Human Resources and Education departments are experi-
encing changes in leadership.
Human Resources Director Patrick Dempsey is leaving Tribal employ-
ment at the end of October to become the executive director of Human
Resources at the Quinault Beach Casino and Resort in Ocean Shores, Wash.
Dempsey, who oversaw the merging of Spirit Mountain Casino and Tribal
governmental human resources functions, has worked for the Grand Ronde
Tribe since January 2013.
General Manager David Fullerton announced via e-mail on Thursday,
Oct. 4, that former Human Resources Department staff member Daphney
Colton will take over as interim Human Resources director while the Tribe
begins recruiting for a new director.
“I want to thank Patrick for his contribution to the organization and wish
him well in his future endeavors,” Fullerton said. “Patrick did a great job
leading our HR team.”
In addition, Education Department Manager Leslie Riggs resigned on
Sept. 10 after working for the Tribe for more than 12 years in the Social
Services and Education departments.
“My plan is to continue to work in Indian education, or just education,
and so far I have been able to do so,” Riggs said via e-mail.
Higher Education Manager Bryan Langley is the acting head of the
Education Department while the Tribe recruits for the open position.
Art tour seeking student entries
WILLAMINA — The Coastal Hills Art Tour, being held Friday
and Saturday, Nov. 9-10, is seeking works for its Student Art Show.
All students are eligible and all art forms are eligible.
Matting assistance will be available from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday,
Nov. 7, in Room 6 of the West Valley Community Campus in Wil-
lamina. An entry form will be available at the workshop.
Four of a student’s maximum five entries must be for sale with
students receiving 70 percent of the sale price. The other 30 percent
is split equally among the West Valley Community Campus, food
bank and Art Conspiracy.

• Editorial Board meets monthly at the Chachalu Museum & Cultural
Center’s conference room, 8720 Grand Ronde Road. Next meeting is

Food Bank provides
boxes, seeks help
The Grand Ronde Food Bank – iskam mfkhmfk haws – is operated
by Marion-Polk Food Share, which has been leading the fight to end
hunger since 1987 because no one should be hungry.
Recipients of SNAP, TANF, SSI or LIHEAP assistance automat-
ically qualify for assistance at the Grand Ronde Food Bank, 9675
Grand Ronde Road. No one will be turned away in need of a food box.
“We believe that everyone deserves to have enough to eat,” Food
Bank Coordinator Francene Ambrose says. “You are welcome to get
a food box at each of our regular weekly distributions. No one will
be turned away in need of a food box.”
Upcoming food box distribution dates will be:
• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19;
• And 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24.
People must check in 15 minutes before closing to receive a food
box. If you need immediate assistance, call 211 or visit 211info.org.
Those who are unable to pick up a food box can fill out an autho-
rized representative form and that person can pick up a food box on
your behalf. The authorization is good for one year.
In addition, the Grand Ronde Health & Wellness Center’s Commu-
nity Health Team will be setting up the mobile clinic at the pantry
on the first Friday of every month.
In partnership with the Health & Wellness Center, the Farm Share
Rx distributions occur from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesdays. If you are
interested in being placed on the waitlist, contact your clinic provider
or call Rachel Peterson at 503-581-3855.
The Food Bank continues to seek volunteers to help with repacking
food, putting food on the shelves, handing out food boxes, end-of-
month inventory and picking up food donations at area stores.
Call to ensure someone is available to assist. People also can sign
up for a monthly e-mail for the Food Bank calendar and events, as
well as follow the Food Bank on Facebook.
