The work is being done in coordination with the state departments of Forestry and Agriculture. “Over the next few weeks and months, we will be assisting with the monitoring and data collection of the traps,” said Colby Drake, Silviculture & Fire Protection manager. If you see a large, purple rectangular box hanging on an ash tree, its purpose is to attract and catch emerald ash borers. The boxes have insect pheromones attached and are sticky. The other traps are smaller, orange rectangular boxes that are tied to the trunk of an oak or other hardwood tree. These traps are designed to attract and catch European and Asian gypsy moths. Grand Ronde PAC holds fi rst Candidates Forum Tribal timber turned into beam for new Monroe brewery MONROE – Tribal members who drive 99W between Eu- gene and Corvallis might want to stop off at Long Timber Brewery in Monroe, which is scheduled to open this fall. On June 14, a crane lifted a single ridge beam 34 feet off the ground into the structure of the under-construction building. The Douglas fi r beam was harvested on the Grand Ronde Reservation and measures 58 feet long and weighs 4,800 pounds. It will be in full view of brewery patrons when the new restaurant opens. The beam was milled at Hull Oakes Mill in Bellfountain and is the largest of several beams included in the design of the building, which refl ects the logging heritage of the community, as well as the owners, Todd and Amy Nystrom, who also own Hull Oakes Mill. Long Timber Brewery was designed by Corvallis architect Lori Stevens and is similar to the award-winning Monroe Community Library, which Stevens also designed.
