American Music Awards nods
By Dean Rhodes
Smoke Signals editor
Tribal member Jan Looking Wolf
Reibach received three Native
American Music Awards nomina-
tions when they were announced
Thursday, Sept. 7, in New York
City.
Reibach was nominated as Flutist
of the Year for his contemplative
compact disc “Ascension,” which
was released earlier this year. In
addition, the Looking Wolf Band of
Brothers was nominated for Duo/
Group of the Year and the video
filmed for the CD’s title track was
nominated for Best Music Video –
Performance.
The Looking Wolf Band of Broth-
ers on “Ascension” included guitar-
ist Nathan Myers, percussionist
George Bobnett and guitarist/
flutist Tim Yett.
“Ascension” is Reibach’s 18th
release. The three new nomina-
tions bring his total to 27 Native
American Music Awards nods over
the last 14 years. He has won four
times.
“This is a great honor to be nom-
inated among such talented Native
American musicians,” Reibach said.
“Through the process of recording
‘Ascension,’ I really reconnected
with why I make music to begin
with. It’s to share love and inspi-
ration in a good way. This is a gift
to be able to share it on an interna-
tional level.
“From the beginning, my music
is inspired by our Tribe. These
nominations belong to every Grand
Ronde Tribal member. It is a bless-
ing to stand with you.”
Board seeking younger veterans
The Tribal Veterans Special Event Board is recruiting younger
veterans – Iraqi and Afghanistan veterans – to join.
“Our committee is getting older,” said Veterans SEB Chairman Steve
Bobb Sr., who is a Vietnam War-era Marine Corps veteran.
Members of the Special Event Board attend events as flag carriers
and represent the Tribe and their branch of service. Veterans interest-
ed in volunteering should contact Tribal Council Chief of Staff Stacia
Hernandez at 503-879-2304 or stacia.martin@grandronde.org.
