Food Bank provides Budgeting public
boxes, seeks help hearing set for June 4
The Grand Ronde Food Bank – iskam mfkhmfk haws – is operated
by Marion-Polk Food Share, which has been leading the fight to end
hunger since 1987 because no one should be hungry.
Recipients of SNAP, TANF, SSI or LIHEAP assistance automat-
ically qualify for assistance at the Grand Ronde Food Bank, 9675
Grand Ronde Road. No one will be turned away in need of a food box.
“We believe that everyone deserves to have enough to eat,” Food
Bank Coordinator Francene Ambrose says. “You are welcome to get
a food box at each of our regular weekly distributions. No one will
be turned away in need of a food box.”
Upcoming food box distribution dates will be:
• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 2;
• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10
• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 16
• 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 21;
• And 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 30.
Those who are unable to pick up a food box can fill out an autho-
rized representative form and that person can pick up a food box
on your behalf. The authorization is good for one year.
The Food Bank continues to seek volunteers to help with repack-
ing food, putting food on the shelves, handing out food boxes and
end-of-month inventory.
The Food Bank will be offering a Bucket Garden Day this sum-
mer where everyone is welcome to take home free supplies to start
a bucket garden on your front porch. The Food Bank also will be
offering a food preservation class series in partnership with Oregon
State University’s Extension Services. Dates will be announced soon.
The Food Bank also is participating in a program called Fresh
Alliance in which volunteers pick up food donations directly from
area stores. Volunteers with a truck who could pick up at these
stores at least once a week and a partner to ride along and help
load are being sought.
Call to ensure someone is available to assist. People also can sign
up for a monthly e-mail for the Food Bank calendar and events, as
well as follow the Food Bank on Facebook.

St. Michael’s offers brunch
St. Michael’s Catholic Church offers an open house brunch every Sunday
following Mass. The brunch is free to the community. Brunch begins at
about 11:30 a.m. following the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Mass attendance is not
required for brunch attendance. For more information, contact Janelle

A public hearing about Tribal priorities and budgeting will be held at 11
a.m. Sunday, June 4, in the Tribal gym, 9615 Grand Ronde Road.
Tribal members will be allowed to testify in person or submit written
testimony on what they see as the Tribe’s priorities and provide input on
the Tribal budget and budgeting process.
Tribal members can submit written testimony to Tribal Council Chief
of Staff Stacia Hernandez at stacia.martin@grandronde.org. 
Hunters Education Course
set for June 24-25
A Hunters Education Course will be held Saturday and Sunday, June
24-25, at the Tribal gym, 9615 Grand Ronde Road.
The Tribe’s Parks and Recreation Program needs a count of how many
youth will be attending so it can inform the Oregon Department of Fish
& Wildlife about class size. The class requires attendance at both sessions
and is for young hunters 17 or younger. The class is open to Tribal and
non-Tribal members ages 9 to 17.
There is a $10 fee to take the class. However, Tribal members can contact
Youth Education for sponsorship opportunities.
Young hunters 17 or younger must pass a certified hunter education class
before hunting unless they are participating in the Mentor Youth Hunter

Clothes Closet open Monday, Friday
The Clothes Closet is open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first and third
Fridays of the month and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. all other Fridays on the Tribal
campus near the Elders Activity Center at the end of Blacktail Drive.
The Clothes Closet accepts clothing, small appliances, small pieces of
furniture, electronics and household goods that are clean and in good
condition. It does not accept books, large TVs or large furniture, but
there is a community board where people can post those items. Donations
are accepted during regular business hours. For more information or
