Family Game Night: Will start back up in September.
Book review: “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins: Rachel rides
the 8:04 train to her imaginary job each day and passes by the Victorian
semis where she used to live.
Rachel knows house No. 15 by heart and dreams up an idealistic life
for Jason and Jess, the “golden couple” who live there. Rachel dreads
passing by house No. 23, where she once lived with her husband Tom.
Now No. 23 is occupied by Tom, his new wife Anna and their baby Evie.
Being unable to have a baby, Rachel turned to heavy drinking and
Tom turned to Anna causing their marriage to end. Rachel’s drinking
got her fired from her job. Then one day on the train as they pass house
No. 15, Rachel sees Jess kissing another man. This fires up hate and
mad feelings toward Jess for Rachel.
After another night of heavy drinking Rachel wakes up with a pounding
headache, bruises and a lump on her head. She has mixed-up memories
about what happened the night before. Add in a local missing person,
hints of domestic violence and more lies and fantasies to Rachel’s already
out-of-control life and you get an unpredictable plot that keeps you read-
ing to the last page. — by Kayla Grijalva
