Social Security Disability Insurance Benefit Advocate
Request for Proposal
The Request for Proposals (RFP) is being conducted by the Social
Service Department for the purpose of obtaining a contractor who has
five plus years’ experience in SSI/SSD advocacy/benefit determination
and the qualifications to advocate for Tribal members who are seek-
ing assistance in the application process. Qualified applicants shall
possess the ability to:
• Provide general information to Tribal members and make referrals
regarding SSI/SSD and veteran’s benefits;
• Screen Tribal members who claim their disability does not allow
them to work;
• Refer members to appropriate physical and/or mental health eval-
uations;
• Determine the severity of the physical/mental health condition from
reports received. Make recommendations and assist Tribal members
develop an action plan;
• Assist Tribal members in applying for SSI/SSD and or veteran’s
benefits;
• Assist Tribal members with completing paperwork to file for appeals
for denial of SSI/SSD or veteran’s benefits;
• Refer Tribal members to Tribal member benefits to apply for Tribal
SSI/SSD program;
• Serve as a resource to employees when working with clients that
may benefit from SSI/SSD or veteran services.
Preference will be given to members of the Confederated Tribes
of Grand Ronde and or Indian-owned business registered with the
Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde TERO office.
Successful candidates must provide the following insurance:
Commercial General Liability Insurance limits not less than:
• $500,000 General Aggregate Limit;
• $500,000 Personal Injury;
• $500,000 Each Occurrence Limit.

WIC visits Health & Wellness Center
Pregnant? Breastfeeding? Does your family include a child under the
age of 5?
If so, you may qualify for the Women, Infants and Children program.
With WIC, people can receive answers to nutritional questions and access
fruits and vegetables, whole grains, eggs, milk, cheese, juice, cereal and
more. A WIC representative visits the Health & Wellness Center on the
third Tuesday of the month, which will be April 18. Walk-ins are welcome
between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. When WIC clients arrive at the Health & Well-
ness Center, they should enter through the Wellness Department located
at the back of the medical wing. For more information or to schedule an

Bike helmets available
The Tribe’s Social Services Department has bicycle helmets
available for distribution. Those needing a helmet need to visit the
department and sign a helmet application, as well as get fitted.

Student Union slates
Mother’s Day Powwow
EUGENE – The Native American Student Union at the University of
Oregon will be holding its 49th annual Mother’s Day Powwow on Friday
and Saturday, May 12-13, on the EMU Lawn. A community salmon bake
also will be held on Sunday, May 14, at the Many Nations Longhouse,
1630 Columbia St. In addition, the Student Union will be hosting Native
activist and rapper Frank Waln on Thursday, May 11, at a location to be
determined. All events are free and open to the public. The powwow will
have more than $7,000 in prize money to be awarded in 14 dance categories.

The Mother’s Day Powwow honors cultural heritage and celebrates the
