Burns Paiute Tribal Elder Vernon Kennedy, a former longtime employee
of the Grand Ronde Tribe, plays the flute during a Flute Circle hosted by
Tribal Elder Marcella Selwyn and her husband, Tony Selwyn. Marcella
said the couple usually hosts the flute circle in their home, but that
recent meetings had grown too large for their house and so they held
this one at the Tribal Community Center in Grand Ronde on Monday,
Dec. 19. Kennedy, who is also the husband of Tribal Vice Chair Cheryle
A. Kennedy, was one of about a dozen flutists, Native and non-Native, to
play and among about 20 people who took part in a potluck meal.
