Book review: “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by
Sherman Alexie.
I found author Sherman Alexie’s writing to be witty, lovable and
charming. Alexie is an author, poet and filmmaker. He was named one
of Granta’s best young American novelists.
Alexie wrote this book based on his childhood and how it was for him
growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Washington state.
He has received numerous awards for his works of fiction, including
“Reservation Blues.”
In this book, you will come to understand what being a part-time In-
dian means for Arnold or Junior, the main character. Arnold makes a
big life decision that not only affects him and his family, but his entire
Reservation of people. With help from an unlikely adult, Arnold has an
epiphany, but I will let you read the book for the rest of the story.
This book pulled at my heart with serious topics that are relevant to
issues in the news today and in Indian Country. – By Rachelle Kellogg.
