Food Bank provides
boxes, seeks help
The Grand Ronde Food Bank – iskam mfkhmfk haws – is operated
by Marion-Polk Food Share, which was been leading the fight to end
hunger since 1987 because no one should be hungry.
Recipients of SNAP, TANF, SSI or LIHEAP assistance automat-
ically qualify for assistance at the Grand Ronde Food Bank, 9675
Grand Ronde Road. No one will be turned away in need of a food box.
Upcoming food box distributions will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 4; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12; and 9 a.m. to 1
p.m. Friday, Nov. 18. The Food Bank will be closed Thanksgiving
week from Nov. 21 through Nov. 25.
The Willamina VFW Auxiliary 4211 is sponsoring a Bingo Fund-
raiser at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. The evening’s activities will in-
clude a raffle, and silent and oral auctions. The Food Bank is seeking
volunteers and items for the auctions. Pre-sale tickets are $10 each.
“We believe that everyone deserves to have enough to eat,” says
Food Bank Coordinator Francene Ambrose. “You are welcome to
get a food box at each of our regular weekly distributions. No one
will be turned away in need of a food box.”
Those who are unable to pick up a food box can fill out an autho-
rized representative form and that person can pick up a food box
on your behalf. The authorization is good for one year.
The Food Bank continues to seek volunteers to help with repacking
food, putting food on the shelves, handing out food boxes and end-
of-month inventory. In addition, the Food Bank is participating in
a program called Fresh Alliance in which volunteers pick up food
donations directly from area stores. Volunteers with a truck who
could pick up at these stores at least once a week and a partner to
ride and help load are being sought.
Call to ensure someone is available to assist. People also can sign
up for a monthly e-mail for the Food Bank calendar and events, as
well as follow the Food Bank on Facebook.

Veterans Day meal set for Friday, Nov. 11
The Tribe’s Veterans Special Event Board will hold its second
annual Veterans Day Meal beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at
the Community Center, 9615 Grand Ronde Road.
The meal is open to veterans and their family members from all
surrounding areas; not just Grand Ronde, Willamina and Sheridan.
Social hour begins at 5 p.m. with the meal to be served beginning
at 6 p.m.

The Clothes Closet is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Friday on
the Tribal campus near the Elders Activity Center at the end of Blacktail
Drive. It accepts clothes, small appliances, small pieces of furniture, elec-
tronics and household goods that are clean and in good condition. It does
not accept books, large TVs or large furniture, but there is a community
board where people can post those items.
Donations are accepted during regular business hours.

Groups form Helping Hands
The Clothes Closet, iskam mfkhmfk haws, Empowerment Outreach Minis-
tries, Lighthouse Church and A Cause For Paws have started an ad hoc group
called Grand Ronde Helping Hands and are inviting community members to
join the effort of supporting local families.
“Our goal is to bring those of us together who are supporting families in
Grand Ronde to share the services and resources we provide and create a re-
source guide we can all use,” said Food Bank Coordinator Francene Ambrose.
The next Helping Hands meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14,
at The Clothes Closet at the end of Blacktail Drive near the Elders Activity
Center.
In addition, a collection day at the Food Bank is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, and is seeking donations of holiday food items, socks,
men’s clothing and pet items, as well as tents, sleeping bags, pillows, warm
blankets, rain gear and heavy jackets.
Ambrose said Helping Hands also is seeking someone with graphic arts
skills to help create a logo that represents all of the organizations that can be
used to advertise on business cards, a banner and possibly a website. A small
honorarium will be offered.
“If you provide any type of services to families in our community, please
consider attending,” Ambrose added. “We are looking for meal site calendars,
food box sites, clothes closets, showers and laundry services. We are asking
churches, church groups, departments and support groups to share with us.”
