June 13, 1936 – July 24, 2016
It is with great sadness that we
share in the passing of our father,
husband, brother, cousin, uncle
and friend Robert Edwin Rife.
Robert was born on June 13,
1936, in Eugene, Ore., to Edwin
Benjamin and Alice Clarinda Jef-
fers Rife. He sadly passed on July
24, 2016, at St. Charles Hospital
in Redmond, Ore.
Bob came from a large family.
His siblings include William Rife,
Bessie West, Pearl Rife, Gladys
Cook, Ruby Golden and Clara
Watts; many of whom live in
Grand Ronde. Known by many
as Bobby Eagle, he was very proud of his Native heritage. He was a
Grand Ronde Tribal Elder.
Bob also was a military man like his father and his brother, Bill.
He served in the Army and was sent overseas to Germany as part
of his tour of duty. Both family and country were important to Bob.
Bob married his first wife, LaWanda Fochtman, in 1958. Together
they had four children: Allan Rife, Donna Demaris, Deneise Bill and
Darla Rife. Grandchildren include Clinton, Tyra, Sheena, Ashley,
Brodie, Jozie and Trace. Great-grandchildren include Blaize, Mi-
randa, Abraham, Cierra, Carly, John, Jacob, Joseph, Brock, Cage,
Tallon and Casen.
Bob later married Judy Green and they had a son, Robbie Rife.
These grandchildren include Mackenna, Brooke, Paige and Blake.
Finally, Bob met Amy McCully and they were married in 1997. To-
gether, they lived in Culver, Ore. Amy had three children of her own,
Jim Hawthorne, Trina Lyons and Jeff Hawthorne, whom Bob called
his own. Grandchildren include Patton, Isabel, Kristin, Maegan, Mi-
chael, Gigi and Henry. Great-grandchildren include Ellie and Olivia.
In loving memory … we will miss you.
A celebration of life was held at the Veterans Memorial Park in
Culver from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 29.
