EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
Attention full-
time students
All full-time students must submit verification that they have
applied to a scholarship outside the Tribe before funding will be
released for the term/semester.
Verification can include a scholarship award or denial letter,
e-mail verification that an application was submitted, a copy of the
application or the financial aid award letter that lists an outside
scholarship.

College Placement Testing offered
College Placement Testing is offered on-site at the Adult Education
Building for Chemeketa Community College, Linn-Benton Community
College and Mount Hood Community College. The Placement Test is
one of the first steps to beginning college classes. Call 503-879-2282 to
sign up for your placement test.
Oregon University System admissions
and scholarship deadlines
The OUS schools have their own priority deadline for admissions. This
is also their university scholarship deadline. Don’t miss your opportunity
to attend your top school choice and a chance to receive a scholarship.

Reading Incentive Program: Registered participants have
until Thursday, July 28, to bring in their reading logs and to spend
their book bucks.

“Jumanji”; and July 30: “The Lego Movie.”

Book Review: “Durango Street” by Frank Bonham.
I chose this book based on the fact that as teenagers we are faced
with right and wrong choices. What do you do when you have a
reputation to protect or an image to uphold? Is one decision worth
throwing your life or future away?
“Durango Street” may be the book for you if you’ve had a tough
life growing up or felt things in your life have already been decided
for you. Rufus Henry is the main character. He is a teenager who is
facing these very struggles. Life for Rufus is going downhill when
he gets caught stealing a car and is sent away to a juvenile work
camp to pay for his crime.
The book gets interesting once Rufus is going to be released. He
will move to a new neighborhood. His parole officer encouraged his
mom to move out of the projects to help Rufus get away from gangs.
The problem is the parole officer did more damage than good because
where Rufus is from you can get killed by being in the wrong place
or being from the wrong gang.
I personally liked this book because Rufus can be any one of us. I
compared his life to mine and realized how easily I could have ended
up making a wrong decision that could have affected my adult life.
Rufus may overcome the obstacles in his life, but the question is, will
Rufus end up making the right or wrong choice? In the end you find
out what kind of man Rufus Henry becomes. I invite you to stop by

Reminder: Donated items must be clean and in good condition.
Inter-Library Loan services: The Tribal Library partners with
Oregon State Library to offer “library to library” inter-library loan
services. By completing the inter-library loan form, library patrons
may request items from the Oregon State Library collection. Items
will be couriered to and from the Tribal Library. OSL lending policies
apply for return of items.
CTGR 2016-2017 K5 Afterschool Program
Sign up Details
Applications will be available on Monday July 11th, 2016 at Youth Education
Sign-ups take place during regular business hours on Monday July 25th through
Friday July 29th at Youth Education
For Who: CTGR Tribal, CTGR Tribal Descendent and other enrolled Native
American students who are entering Kindergarten through 5th grade in the
Willamina and Sheridan School Districts
Fees/Deposits: $20 per month for Afterschool and $5 per day for full day
Programming, a sliding-scale reduced fee (based on monthly income) is available
Program Details
Location is at the CTGR Youth Education buildings
Transportation is provided on a CTGR bus from
Willamina Elementary School. Due to van seating
limitations, we can only serve 10 students from
the Sheridan Elementary School (FCS).
Provide healthy afternoon snacks each day and a
variety of educational, recreational, and cultural
enrichment activities.
Application submitted must have:
Full application completed and signed
Deposit $20, or fee determined by the sliding scale
Parent/Guardian proof of employment if accessing the sliding scale
CIB or Tribal I.D.
Limited spaces available!
Sign ups for K5 Afterschool roster spots use a first come, first serve basis.
There are a total of 60 roster openings, (K/2nd: 30 spots & 3rd/5th: 30 spots)
Enrolled CTGR Tribal Member youth will be offered the programing spots first.
CTGR Descendant and other enrolled Native American youth will be awarded
roster spots if any are remaining at the conclusion of the initial sign up week on
July 29th. If a waiting list is needed, Tribal Member youth signing up after the
program enrollment is at capacity, will be placed at the top of the wait list.
