EULA PETITE COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIP
Full-time undergraduate and graduate
(laptop computer)
One laptop computer will be awarded to the top full-time undergraduate
applicant and one laptop computer will be awarded to the top full-time
graduate applicant.
Must be an enrolled Grand Ronde Tribal member and have a minimum
3.0 GPA and be attending college on a full-time basis to apply.
Application deadline is June 30, 2016.

College Placement Testing ofered
College Placement Testing is offered on-site at the Adult Education
Building for Chemeketa Community College, Linn-Benton Community
College and Mount Hood Community College. The Placement Test is one
of the irst steps to beginning college classes. Call 503-879-2282 to sign up
for your placement test.
Tribal Library Summer Program: “On Your Mark, Get
Set ... READ!” will begin on Monday, June 20, and run through
Thursday, July 28.
Registration is required for the Reading Incentive Program.
Registration runs from June 1 to Thursday, June 16. This program
is for ages 4 to 17. Our Book Buck store will open on Monday, July
11, with lots of awesome things to buy for our Reading Incentive
Program readers. This year, teens will have the option to purchase
gift cards or prizes with their book bucks.
Each week we will have a special theme with a book display and
activities in the Tribal Library. Each Saturday we’ll have a movie
at noon to go with the weekly theme. The schedule is:

Hand-held Device/Computer Class: 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to
3 p.m. Saturday, June 25. The library has teamed with Chemeketa
Community College to offer this class on the Grand Ronde campus.
Class content will include learning how to download applications,
music, photos, etc., to hand-held devices. It is recommended that
attendees bring their own phones, tablets, mp3 players, cameras,
etc., to practice with. There is a $29 fee for the class that the library
will waive once people who register complete the class. To register,
contact the library at 503-879-1488 or come into the library to sign
up. There is limited space that will be illed irst-come, irst-served.
Book review: “Who Will Tell My Brother” by Marlene Carvell.
High school can be tough and uncomfortable for some. This book
gives you a close-up, detailed look into Evan Hill’s senior year. He
is a Mohawk Native American dealing with bullying, traditions
and bigotry.
Also interesting is how the author took this book and turned it
into poetry of sort, with words that touch you and stir emotion.
Like this passage: “I long to go home. It’s tough being noble when
you’re all alone.” I ind the author’s words soft as silk, yet as pow-
erful as a lion.
I found myself cheering for the narrator from the beginning.
Evan’s exceptional commitment to his cause touched me so deeply
that I had to evaluate what I would have said or how I would have
reacted in the situations he was faced with. This struggle is very
much an issue for our culture and way of life. It is a struggle that
will continue as long as people see others as different.
I hoped the book’s ending was different, but I was still very happy
to have read and pondered “Who Will Tell My Brother,” which is a
young adult iction novel. Therefore, I formally invite you to come to
